ABOUT US
Great Northern Tallow was born from a love of history, the mountains, and a return to traditional living. Raised in a railroad family and working in the industry myself, I’ve always admired the legacy of the Great Northern Railway, which crossed rugged landscapes from Washington and Montana to California. My experiences in the snowy peaks of the West — and trips to the mountains of Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont — deepened my appreciation for the hardworking spirit of the Great Northern region, inspiring the name behind our brand.
The roots of Great Northern Tallow also trace back to a personal journey in health. Transitioning from the standard American diet to a simpler, more ancestral way of eating, I embraced a carnivore diet focused on beef and lamb. While butchering primal cuts at home, I began producing more tallow than I could use. What started as a hobby — crafting balms and soaps for friends and family — quickly grew into something more.
Today, Great Northern Tallow operates from the foothills of the historic Sierra Nevada mountains of Northern California, offering pure, traditional products inspired by the rugged spirit of the Great Northern frontier.
